Ford Community Day update

Last Thursday (19th September), more than 40 volunteers from the Ford Dunton Technical Centre spent the day at our home ground in Barleylands, making various improvements to the club. Thanks to our Under 11s Falcons manager, Rob Byrne, FC Redwing were selected this year for their annual Community Day. Leading up to the day, our vice-chairman Steve Richardson was instrumental in preparing the ground, sourcing sponsorship and materials, organising catering and making sure that the club was ready for the works to commence.

The staff from Ford arrived at the ground early on Thursday morning, where catering facilities had been organised for the day. Amongst the group, largely from the Dunton Technical Centre in Essex, included some senior members of the company - one of which who had travelled from the United States to help out on the day. FC Redwing’s growing reputation is extending far and wide! They were also joined by Steve, Derek and Rob, who impressed the team at Ford by working alongside them.

Throughout the day, the team worked tirelessly on various tasks such as:

- Painting the exterior of the containers and portakabin
- Erecting and painting fencing around the car park
- Building and fixing a club noticeboard
- Building and securing benches for spectators around the car park
- Installation of signage throughout the grounds
- Building of shelter for mowers
- Laying of gravel around containers
- Cladding fixed around portakabin

There are also short term plans to install a kitchen within the portakabin, as well as plumbing repair works within the toilet facilities . If you know of any volunteers that can aid us here, please get in touch.

None of the works could have been possible without our club sponsors and some generous donations, as well as the unwavering support from within the club. Huge thanks to Penlaw for their help & sponsorship, as well as to Ford for their support in this community day. Special mention to Dean & Amy who kindly lent us their generator for the day & have supported the club for a number of years. Thank you also to Rob Byrne for organising the initiative and finally to our Vice-Chairman, Steve Richardson, & Chairman, Derek Maslen , for their tireless work leading up to and during the day. None of this would have been possible without them.
